Paramedics & Medical
Our candidates must undertake the rigours of training and experience in addition to their
basic training before becoming ‘CMS paramedics’ or ‘CMS medical technicians’ capable of delivering
Care & Treatment prior to and during ambulance transportation. Whether you wish to start a candidate
straight away or contract them first, our response to clients’ and candidates’ requests is both flexible and competitive.
CMS Basic Qualification (Grade A)
These recruits are trained and considered competent by a certificating body approved by the
NHS to deal with patients that are unlikely to become emergency patients.
Skills include:
- Driving Techniques, including UK & Continental Traffic Law
- First Aid
- Patient Assessment and positioning
- Full Use of all Ambulance Aid Equipment on Vehicle (Category 1 type)
CMS Intermediate Technicians (Grade B1)
Intermediate Technicians are trained and considered competent by a certificating body approved
by the NHS in Ambulance Aid. They have not, however, received the required experience to deal with emergency patients.
(i.e. Grade B Staff without the experience) These include NHSTD, Miller 2, Miller IV Pre-Proficiency, USA EMT Ambulance,
SJAB Level 2, Red Cross Ambulance Aid, Whye Forest/Lifeline Ambulance Aid etc.
CMS Medical Technicians (Grade B)
Ambulance Technicians are trained and considered competent by a certificating body approved by the NHS in Ambulance Aid, with the experience to deal with emergency patients.
These include NHSTD Miller IV, USA EMT Intermediate, State Registered Nurses and some other Grades meeting the standard and criteria requirements.
Skills include (in addition to all of the above):
- Advanced First Aid
- Anatomy and Physiology
- The use of Oxygen and Analgesic Gases
- Basic Diagnostic Techniques
- Care of the Unconscious Patient
- Emergency Obstetrics
- Management of Trauma case's and Emergency situations
- Application of Splints, Cervical Collars, & Vacuum Mattress
- Access and Prioritise Ambulance Care requirements
- At least ONE YEAR in service under the directions of a Qualified Attendant/Technician/Nurse and experienced in ALL duties INCLUDING the Care and Treatment of Accident & Emergency Patients
- Local Skills + Performing Automated external Defibrillation
- Local Skills +Assisting in Paramedic Invasive Situations

CMS Paramedics
[Extended Trained Technicians/Nurses (Grade C)]
CMS paramedics are considered competent by a certificating body approved by the NHS in extended Ambulance Aid
but also with the required clinical experience certificated by a Medical Consultant to deal with advanced treatment and
monitoring of emergency patients. Clinical refreshers must be undertaken either annually or tri-annually as required.
CMS paramedics employed in the NHS are registered through the CPSM in order to become State Registered.
Skills include all of the above, with further training including Clinical Practice in the following:
- Diagnostic Skills
- Taking & Interpreting ECGs, Cardiac Monitoring & Defibrillation
- Advanced Life Support
- Intravenous Cannulation and setting up IV Infusions
- Salbutamol Nebulisation and giving Drugs by all Routes
- Supervisory and Training Skills
- Additional Local Paramedic Skills
- Crico-Thyroid puncture and Inter-Cardiac Injection
- Diagnosis of Tension Pneumothorax, Chest Puncture and Management of Chest Drains
- The Effects of in-flight patient care
- Prescribe & Administer selected drugs in Paramedic situations
